What Humanin is

Humanin is a mitochondrial-derived micropeptide encoded within the 16S rRNA gene (MT-RNR2) and was the first mitochondrial-derived peptide discovered, in 2001. In the literature it shows cytoprotective, anti-apoptotic, and neuroprotective activity in cell and animal models, and it is the founding member of the mitochondrial-derived peptide family alongside MOTS-C and the SHLPs. It is a research peptide, not an approved medicine, and has not been evaluated by the FDA.
