What Argireline is

Argireline (acetyl hexapeptide-8, also called acetyl hexapeptide-3) is a synthetic, N-acetylated hexapeptide derived from a fragment of the SNAP-25 protein, marketed since 2001 as a topical cosmetic anti-wrinkle ingredient. In the literature it is proposed to reduce facial-muscle contraction by interfering with SNARE-complex vesicle fusion, though clinical evidence is mixed. It is a cosmetic ingredient, not an FDA-approved drug.

Type6 amino acids (a hexapeptide)
Molecular formulaC34H60N14O12S
Molecular weight889.00 g/mol (free peptide; the acetate salt sold in cosmetics is heavier, ~949 g/mol)
CAS number616204-22-9
Amino-acid sequenceAc-Glu-Glu-Met-Gln-Arg-Arg-NH2 (N-terminally acetylated, C-terminal amide)
CategoryCosmetic

Regulatory status: Argireline is handled as a cosmetic ingredient rather than a drug; it is not FDA-approved as a therapeutic and carries no approved medical claims. It is used topically in over-the-counter cosmetic products.

How much does Argireline cost?
About $30–$120 per vial, depending on vial size. Compare the same size across vendors.
